Eula B. Proffitt, 95, went home to be with the Lord December 31st, 2025. The daughter of Luther and Emmoline Charity Barr, she grew up to be a true country girl. Throughout her life she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, she loved to be in the fresh air and beauty that nature offers, especially watching and listening to the birds at her home in Midway, WV. As a devout Christian she truly understood the blessing of life all around her, a gift from the Lord she loved so dearly.
She was a lifetime member of the Hilltop Baptist Church, reading her bible often, singing in the choir, and being an active member of the church’s Ladies Mission when she was able. Second only to her faith was her love for her family, her beloved husband John Proffitt, and their two children who would say she was giving the “gift of gab”. She shared her life stories and listened to theirs regardless of whether it was at church, in her hometown, or even just going out shopping, she never met a stranger.
She was met at the pearly gates by her parents and husband, as well as a son-in-law David Hightower, grandson Chris Hightower, and all of her many siblings.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, son Alan Proffitt and wife Melinda K., daughter Melinda Stoots and husband Richard; grandchildren Tara Wells and husband Mark, Jason Proffitt, and Katie Hightower; great-grandchildren Caleb, Hannah, Joshua, Gabriel, Rachel, Kayleigh, Luke, and Jessalyn Wells, and Madelyn Clemons.
A private family service will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley, WV after which she will be laid to rest next to her husband at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Shared memories and condolences can be left for the family at Blue Ridge Funeral Home’s website: blueridgefuneralhomebeckley.com
