Freeda James

Born on April 4th, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Henry Bowling and Monnie Ramey Bowling.

Freeda spent her life as a homemaker. In her free time, she enjoyed crochet, needlepoint, ceramics, flowers, and watching westerns.

She was a member of Cales Chapel in Coal City, WV.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Robert James; sons, Harold D. James and Leroy James; and a daughter, Judy Ann James.

Those left to cherish her memory include sons, Wiley R. James (Stella) of Epperly Hill, WV and Leslie A. James (Rob) of Sewickley, PA; daughters, Debra Owens of Coal City, WV, and Patricia Herron (Ross) of Coal City, WV, 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Freeda will be on Thursday, December 11th, 2025 at 12 PM at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Chapman officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior. Freeda will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens following the service.

Mom was the glue that held our family together, the steady presence who made every gathering warmer and every challenge easier to navigate. Her kindness shaped the way we showed up for one another, and her quiet strength kept us grounded even in the hardest moments. She had a way of making everyone feel seen, loved, and valued, and because of that, our family’s bond is something we will forever be grateful for. Her absence leaves an ache that words can barely touch, but her love, her wisdom, and the warmth she poured into all of us will continue to echo through our lives. She will be deeply, profoundly missed.

Jeff James, Jason James, Jeremy James, Robert James, Anthony Herron, Trey Dunlap, Isiah Smith, and Jacob Mullins will serve as pallbearers.
