Gary Patrick Sawyers

A veteran of the United States Army, beloved partner, father, grandfather, and friend Gary lived life simply and honestly. In addition to being a veteran he was a coal miner and as well or better than many what it took to keep the lights on and provide for a family. In his spare time he was a fisherman, enjoying nature and all it has to offer. He will be remembered fondly for all he was to all who knew him. A loving man and true partner to his girlfriend of thirty years, Sue Miller; father to Carl and Gary S. Sawyers—both of whom followed his footsteps into the military to serve their country; an incredibly caring father to his baby girl Darlene.

He is preceded in death by his parents John and Myrtle Sawyers, widowed wife Erma L, Sawyers as well as sisters Lyla Harris (David “Corky” Harris), Sheila Sawyers.

He is survived by his long-term girlfriend Sue Miller and her family; sons Carl Sawyers (Kimberly) and Gary S. Sawyers (Christina); daughter Darlene Sawyers; Charlie, a son not by blood he loved as his own just the same. Grandchildren Randy Sawyers, he was so proud of Patrick Sawyers (Kailea) becoming a medical ER Physician, and Jonathan Sawyers Being a dentist and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home of Beckley, WV on Saturday February 7th at 1pm, friends are invited to join the family for an hour prior to services for a visitation. After the services he will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens of Beckley, WV.
