Born February 2, 1947, in Panther, WV one of twelve children born to Hillard and Nannie Stacy. Known to many as Doug, he lived with a steady devotion to what mattered most—faith, family, and the quiet responsibilities that shape a life of purpose. His kind heart and dependable presence offered comfort in ordinary moments and strength in difficult ones, leaving an influence that did not seek attention, yet was unmistakably felt.
Doug proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His bravery and dedication earned him several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Sharpshooter (SPS) M-14 distinction. He carried the values of honor, discipline, and patriotism with him long after his military service ended, and those principles remained evident in the way he worked, the way he treated others, and the standards he held for himself.
Outside of his service, Doug was happiest with his hands busy. He had a passion for fixing up old cars and trucks, spending hours bringing worn engines and weathered bodies back to life. He loved riding his Harley on open roads and took great pride in his collection of firearms. These hobbies were more than pastimes—they reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship and hard work, and the quiet satisfaction he found in doing things well.
Doug’s greatest joy, however, was his family. He cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren, sharing his passions. Being a loyal brother, uncle, and son brought him immense joy; his siblings were his lifelong best friends, a bond that made him incredibly proud. In the lives he touched most closely, he was beloved not only for what he provided, but for the steadfast care and encouragement he gave so freely.
Doug leaves behind his children, son Jonathan Stacy (wife Melanie), and daughter Lisa Martin; his grandchildren Lauren Stacy Taylor (husband Jackson) and Jackson Fee; sister Connie Stacy-Johnson (husband Elmo); brothers Randall Stacy, Jeff Stacy, and Richard Stacy (wife Debbie); sisters-in-law Dovey Stacy and Nancy Stacy; brothers-in-law, Steve Erwin and Freamon Reece; as well as many extended family members and friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his parents Hillard and Nannie Stacy; siblings Ralph Stacy (wife Eunice), Shirley Stacy, Varis Stacy, Kenneth Stacy (wife Wanda), Eddie Stacy, Janice Stacy-Erwin, and Athalene Stacy-Reece.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley, WV, on Wednesday May 20th, 2026 at 1pm. Family and friends are invited to gather at Blue Ridge Funeral Home of Beckley for a visitation from 11am-1pm on the day of the service.
