Mrs. Imogene Fortner

Imogene Ruth Redden Fortner of Grandview, WV passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Raleigh General Hospital with her three daughters by her side.

She was born November 16, 1932 at Grandview, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Mary Redden, her husband, Douglas Fortner, a son-in-law Ronnie Link, a granddaughter-in-law, Hester Pack and sisters Frances Moss and Pauline Meadows.

She is survived by her daughters, twins Janie Pack and husband Frank of Cool Ridge, WV, Jeanie Link and husband Kerry of Beaver, WV and Delores Link of Beaver, WV; three grandsons, Greg Pack of Bradley, WV, Kenny Pack of Cool Ridge, WV, and Jason Link of Daniels, WV; three great-grandchildren, Logan and Landyn Pack of Glen Morgan, WV and Haley Link of Sophia, WV; one brother, Bob Redden and wife Fay, of Grandview, WV; three sisters, Mary Smith of Daniels, WV, Norma Fortner of Spring Hill, FL and Helen Moye and her husband, Fred of Beckley, WV; a sister-in-law, Lucille Ball of Daniels, WV and a special nephew, Randy Fortner of Grandview, WV; caregiver Gina Ingram of Grandview, WV and several other nieces, nephews and cousins and her precious dog “Babe”.

Imogene was a 1951 graduate of Shady Spring High School. She was employed by Beckley Manufacturing for 17 years. She then decided to fulfill a lifelong dream of helping others by becoming a nurse. She graduated LPN Training at the age of 44 and was employed by Raleigh General Hospital on 4 South for 28 years. She was nominated by Raleigh General Hospital Physicians and her co-workers for the Dr Frist Humanitarian Award and won the award in 1976. She retired at age 72 to take care of her husband, who had become seriously ill. She touched the lives of her family, friends, patients and their families with her warm and caring ways. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Rev. Gary Ickes officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Greg and Kenny Pack, Jason Link, Randy Fortner, Steve Milam, and John Michael Ball.

Friends may gather with the family Wednesday from 11 – 1 at the funeral home.
