

Born October 3, 1948, on Beury Mountain, in Fayette County, he was the son of the late Vernon and Martha Boley of Hilltop, WV.
In addition to his parents, Bo was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Aurentz, and two sisters, Peggy Boley and Shirley Skaggs.
Those left to cherish his memory include his high school sweetheart and wife of 56 years, Linda McMillion Boley; his son, Brian Boley and wife, Lanna of Raleigh, NC and his like-daughter, Brenda Epling and husband, Matthew of Beckley; his three sisters-in-law, Bootie Aurentz of Columbus, OH, Jan Pugh of Pensacola, FL, and Jennie Rozell of Smoot, WV; numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Lawrence graduated from Mt. Hope High School; West Virginia University, and the West Virginia State Police Academy, earning degrees in Liberal Arts and Criminal Justice.
He served his community and county in law enforcement for over 30 years before retiring as Lieutenant for Fayette County Sherrif’s Department. During his tenure as deputy, Lt. Boley served as a DARE (Drug Awareness Resistance Education) officer for Fayette County, going into classrooms teaching students about the dangers and consequences of drug use. He was a certified police instructor training other officers in various exercises and techniques of police work. Following retirement, he worked for 5 years with the New River National Park and Reserve where he served as a park ranger in law enforcement in the Grandview district. He also served as a Security Supervisor at Raleigh General Hospital.
During free time, he and his wife enjoyed working on their farm on Beury Mtn (raising Belgian horses, Black Angus and Hereford cattle), going to Amish country in Ohio, camping at Stonewall Resort, and vacationing with family in Pigeon Forge and Nashville, TN.
Lawrence was a member and a senior deacon of Chestnut Knob Baptist Church, where he taught Bible Study and adult Sunday School Class for over 30 years.
A service to celebrate the life of Lieutenant (Retired) Lawrence “Bo” Ray Boley will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Rev. Floyd Bolen officiating. Following the services Mr. Boley will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Pallbearers will be men he worked with as Deputies, Doug Dancy, Charlie Bryant, Howard Hill, Curtis Adkins, Rob Legg, and Pat Tygrett.
Friends may gather with the family from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Friday at Chestnut Knob Baptist Church, Layland, WV and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Also, a special thank you to Fayette County Sheriff Jess McMullen, for his coordination efforts and help to supply resources for a policeman’s funeral for Lawrence.
