LUCILLE HURD Lucille Hurd, 94, of Maple Fork, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 15, 2015. Born September 13, 1920 in Pax, WV; she was a daughter of the late Carl Pittman and the late Jennie Bell Pittman. Lucille loved feeding the birds and squirrels, working puzzles, and campaigning. She retired from Woodrow Wilson High School as a cook; and attended the Maple Fork Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Hurd; a son, Ernie Hurd; daughter, Cora Schwartz; daughter-in-law, Arlene Hurd; sisters, Lodema Addison and Louise Ellis; infant brother, Herbert Lewis Pittman; and two grandchildren, Steven Thompson and Chance Fisher. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Gene Hurd of Maple Fork; daughter, Carol Hurd of Rockville, MD; daughter-in-law, Judy Hurd of MD;3 brothers, Herman Pittman, Sr and wife Irene of Maple Fork, Carl Pittman, Jr of Bradley, and Benny Pittman and wife, Theresa of Maple Fork; a sister, Pat Legg of Bradley; 10 grandchildren, Mike Hurd and wife, Candy, Cathy Redden and husband, Jeff, Kevin Hurd and wife Denise, Danny Hurd and wife, Caroline, Brian Hurd, Kelly Whitelock and husband, Wes, Kim Fisher and husband, Brad, Jay Fisher, Dutch Fisher and wife, Becky, and Alan Thompson and wife, Monica; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Katie, Hunter, Amanda, Austin, Katie, Allie, Elizabeth, A.J., Savanna, Shane, Cody, Miranda, and Jacob; 2 great-great-grandchildren; extended family and friends. Services to celebrate the life of Lucille Hurd will be held 2:00pm Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with her nephew, Rev. Larry Hurd officiating. Following the services Lucille will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Grandsons and great-grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.
