Rita Mae McKenzie

Rita lived in many places from Omaha Nebraska to Beckley, WV. She worked for Mutual of Omaha where she met her husband Larry. She also worked the front desk at Doctor’s Offices and Law Firms in NH.

Rita married Larry in February 1957 just after her 20th birthday. They remained married until 1977. Rita did remarry for a brief time in 1986 but soon divorced and she lived by herself until 2014 when she fell and broke her back and lived with Kevin for a brief time.

Rita moved to WV with her daughter Fran in 2016 where she remained until her passing. She lived 1 year at the Fayette Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she was recovering from back surgery. Rita was diagnosed with Dementia, Thrombocytopenia, Hypertension, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease within the year of being at the nursing home. She went to sleep on Monday, June 12, 2023 and passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

She enjoyed life to the fullest. Always up for an adventure but loved being in her home as well. She loved her TV, puzzle books, puttering around the house and Ruby (our beloved cat).

She is survived by her daughter Fran Porter of Beckley WV, son Mark McKim of Florida. Her grandchildren: Gary Rumrill – wife Ashley of Ohio; Diane Callison – husband Montana of WV; Myles McKim of Florida. Great grandchildren Tessa, Peyton, Arizona and Tennessee. Her sister Rosemary and brother-in-law Larry Keefe of Arizona.

Preceding her in death: Parents Tiberius and Louella; brothers: Bob, Jack, Jim, Roger. Sister Phyllis. First husband Larry McKim, Son Kevin McKim.

She always donated to St Jude’s and DAV.

Her wishes to be cremated were fulfilled by her family and her memorial was held on July 15, 2023 at the Bradley Church of God in Bradley, WV with Pastor Brian White officiating.
