

Born April 20, 1951, in Oak Hill, WV; he was a son of the William H. Diehl and the late Mary Harding Diehl McClanahan Bowles.
Sherman loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, digging ginseng with his brothers and traveling. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He never knew a stranger and could put a smile on anyone's face no matter how bad of a day they were having. He was the type of person that would willingly help anyone in a time of need without hesitation.
Sherman graduated from Sophia High School he continued to pursue his education obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Concord University. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War obtaining the rank of Sargent. Following his discharge from the Marine Corp. he began his career with American Electric Power, retiring following 32 years of dedicated service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Cecil Diehl and Alex Diehl; his father and mother-in-law, Harvey and Annie "Mae" Rakes, and a niece, Cecilia Diehl.
Those left to cherish his memory and treasure the legacy that he leaves behind include his loving wife of 55 years, Lana Rakes Diehl of Sophia; two daughters, Michelle Meadows of Shady Spring and Melodie Hunt of Sophia and fiancé, Jodie Pollastrini of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Austin Harvey of Sophia, Jordan Harvey of Sophia, and Jenna Harvey of Huntington, WV; a special sister-in-law, whom he loved like a sister, June Diehl of Crab Orchard; numerous in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends; and his beloved cat, Willow.
Friends may gather with the family Friday, September 19, 2025, from 5:00PM until 7:00PM with a Service of Reflection and Memories beginning at 7:00PM.
