Shirley Mae Adkins

Shirley Mae Adkins, 76, passed away at her home in Coal City, WV, on Friday January 29, 2021 after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was the widow of Bobby Lee Adkins Sr. of Coal City, WV. They shared over 49 years of marriage together.

She was born in Josephine, WV. She was the daughter of Lacy Smith and Evelyn Thompson. She was a lifelong homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.

Shirley enjoyed spending time with family, camping and campfires, playing cards and working puzzle books while drinking coffee. She was a devoted and loving mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband (Bobby Lee Adkins Sr.); mother (Evelyn Thompson); father (Lacy Smith), brother (Earl Smith Sr.); sisters (Betty Smith Baker) and (Maggie Carr).

She is survived by her brothers, Roy Smith Sr. and wife Dianne of Coal City, WV and David Smith of Coal City, WV; sister, Janice Caldwell of Shady Springs, WV; son, Bobby Lee Adkins Jr and family of Beckley, WV; daughter, Tammy L. Adkins Woods and husband Jimmie, their daughter, Courtney and their family pet Zoey of Coal City, WV; son, William L. Adkins and family of Odd, WV; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

A very special thank you to the Hospice Nursing team that cared for our mother, you were truly a blessing to her and the family.

Funeral service will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 1 pm with Rev. Lowell Black officiating. Friends may gather with the family from 12-1 pm.
