

Shirley “Moe” Ball went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 14, 2025, at the age of 84. He was the son of the late Freeland Ball Sr. and Amanda Dingess Ball. In addition to his parents, Moe was preceded in death by brothers, John, Earl, Bob, Freeland Jr., Berl, Les, and by a sister, Lucille Meadows.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Alice Norine Ball, and their three children, Shirley Ann (Kenneth) Meadows of Pluto Road, WV, Rick (Lori) Ball of Beckley, WV, and Steve (Angie) Ball of Fincastle, VA. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Olivia, Lesleigh, and Amelia Ball, and a sister Donna Ball Mann (Jim) of Newport, NC. Additional survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Moe and his twin brother Berl were born on August 19, 1941, in Sprague, West Virginia. He spent his entire life in the Beckley area. After retiring from the Raleigh County Board of Education, Moe worked for the James C. Justice Companies for over 30 years.
Moe had a passion for sports and spent his entire life playing or coaching athletics. Moe loved to coach and mentor young people. Over the past 50+ years, Moe coached and mentored hundreds of kids through multiple different coaching opportunities that included Bradley Elementary, the Beckley Little League, numerous summer basketball and baseball teams, and most recently Greenbrier East High School Girls Basketball.
Moe was gentle, humble, caring, and always chose to put others before himself. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and he was constantly looking for ways to be encouraging and supportive of anyone he crossed paths with. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was a long-time member of Maxwell Hill Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Maxwell Hill Baptist Church in Beckley, WV, from 6 pm to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday November 19, 2025, at Maxwell Hill Baptist Church at 1:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, West Virginia. Memorial donations can be made to Maxwell Baptist Church in memory of Moe.
