Shirley Mae Stone, age 79, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Bowers Hospice House. Born on June 21, 1940 in Sophia, WV, she was the daughter of the late John Burleson and Gertrude Stover Burleson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Stone; her son, Eric Stone and his wife, Kelly of Bristol, VA; grandchildren, Erica Pack and her husband, Chris, and Bethany Rife; great-grandson Levi Remington Pack; her nephews; Tom Poe, Terry Poe and Ronald Green; and sister-in-law, Delores Stone.
Shirley was a cook in the Raleigh County school system for 32 years. She and her husband, James were members of Mabscott Independent Christian Church for over 40 years. She enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with her grandbabies. Shirley was a very loving individual who would do anything for anyone and had a “heart of gold.”
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Davis officiating. Burial will be held at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers honoring her are Terry Poe, Douglas Poe, David Poe and Chris Pack.
