Vernon Reed Roop

Vernon Reed Roop, 90, of Bluefield, formerly of Matheny, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014.

Born August 21, 1924 at Allen Junction to the late Theodore and Victoria Greer Roop.

Vernon loved flying his Piper Cherokee, and taught Aeronautics at the Pineville Airport; attending church, studying the Bible, and witnessing to others; he was a member and former Sunday School Teacher at both the Matheny Church of God and the Bluefield Church of God. He was a very faithful man of God. Vernon served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II and was a former Commander for the Pineville American Legion Post#133.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Kent Roop.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 47 years, Clarice G. Osborne Roop; children, Gilda Key and husband, Jack of Shady Spring, David Roop of Bluefield, Ray Roop and wife, Cindy of Princeton, Jerry Lusk of Pineville, Sandra Canada and husband, Mackie of Pineville, Rick Lusk of Ocala, FL, Kevin Roop and wife, Heather of Bradley, and Kara Bowling of Athens; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Keith Roop and wife, Edna of Alexandria, VA, Pat Hudson of Cleveland, TN, and Clara Nell Waddell of Cranberry; special aunt, Clara Kincaid of Kincaid; several extended family members and a host of friends.

A service to celebrate the life of Vernon Reed Roop will be held 1:00PM Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastors Clifton and Terry Yates officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Wyoming County Honor Guard.

Friends may gather with the family from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
