A few words at the Funeral Service:  Dee and I want to thank all of you for the Love and Support for myself and our family at this time.  I have found it all very uplifting and comforting.  Dee has become my guardian Angel and is giving me the strength to get through this ordeal.  I have changed and I am much more willing to step out of my comfort zone to reach out and stay connected.
Our wedding video was playing at the funeral home, because of how well it showed who Dee was – happy and full of life.  From that little girl that use to dream of travel while swinging in the school playground, Dee came to Baltimore a 14 year old teenager to help with Tommy, Sheila, Shirley, and Gary and never left.  Well, except to travel of course: Two cross country trips, Canada, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Ireland, France, Israel, and lots and lots of local trips to New England, New York, Cape May, Rehoboth, Ocean City, Outer Banks, Florida and of course back home to North Carolina.  You only had to mention a trip and Dee was packing her bags.
Dee was happy any time a baby came nearby.  You could see her light up with that sparkle in her eyes.  So, God blessed her with 2 sons, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  And, an untold number of neighborhood kids, friend's kids, and our extended family.  As I said, Dee came to help out with her cousins, but it didn't stop there.   Dee was always there to take a couple of extra kids here or there and even on vacation.  Mom Mom was always there to help out with “Little” Brian, Megan and Morgan, Casey, Collin, and Ella.  I'll bet there isn't a person in this room under the age of 40 that wasn't touched in some way by Miss Dee.  There was one time, that one of the new girls at work that we hardly knew had to go out of town for a week.  But, she had a baby and no one to watch her.  Dee did not hesitate to volunteer.
Speaking of work, I met Dee at Lever Brothers in 1979.  When I started, we both worked in Liquid Packing.  One day, I walked out on the floor and an outside mechanic was working on Dee's line, so I walked over to see if he needed anything.  As I passed by Dee I said, “Oh! The mechanic finally got here.”  And Dee said, “You mean Bob.  Did you know that his wife name is Betty and they have three children.  They live over Towson.”  I said, “Wait a minute, didn't he just get here, how do you know so much about him?”  But with her wonderful smile and welcoming look in her eyes, Dee was just so easy to talk to.  Although, there were times that I thought she was hearing confession.  You just had to open up to her.  Years later, I found myself opening up to her also, and then falling in love.  Dee's willingness to listen and love of family drew me closer.  But Dee's support was what finalized the deal.  Anyone, that knew Dee before we started dating would have never thought they would hear stories of Dee doing 50 mile bike rides.  I was an avid cyclist and of course wanted to share my hobby with Dee.  Our first trip together we were in Massachusetts and riding the Cape Cod Trail.  But Dee had her limits, when we had ridden the 25 miles to the end of the trail, I told her that: “The Trail Guide says that if we go another 300 yards that way, we will be able to see the Ocean.”  Dee said, “You said 25 miles out and 25 miles back, and that's how far we're going.”  I never did understand how Dee could talk through her teeth like that.
Dee, I will always love you.  Thank you for our wonder life together.  Thank you for bringing Christina and me into your family.  You have gone home to a better place, without pain or distress; to be with the Lord.  Back with love ones and old friends.  Just try to give Ronnie a break.

When I think of Dee; I see her endearing smile, I think of her soft spoken word and kind personality. Our family is praying for you. We are so sorry for your loss.

Kimberly told me about Dee's passing away. I loved Dee as a sister from the moment we met 45 years ago. We all had so much fun together . I had not seen her for awhile, but always thought of her. Lonnie knows she passed away, but is in NC and cannot make the trip. I will see you both and the rest of the family tonight

Seeing the photo gallery reminded me how full Dee's life was. How fortunate for her that she was always surrounded by a loving family and grateful friends. I'm going to miss her. I feel very blessed to have know Dee. What a gal.

We are so deeply saddened by Dee's passing. I am sad for you in knowing how much you loved her and all that the two of you shared together. She was such a warn and loving person who accepted people into her life and made them feel like family. I have such warm memories of Dee at all the family gatherings and enjoying her conversations. She was such a wonderful person and she will be greatly missed. Our love, thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dee as I sit here and begin to write this ,it still hasn't really set in that my 2nd mom is truly gone. Even though David,Brian and I are cousins , I truly feel that they are my brothers and you ALWAYS treated me as your 3rd son and I will never forget you for that.The times our families spent together when we were kids and up to the present times as adults are some of my best memories of what family is and should be. I know as the younger generations of our family grows into adults they too will remember the traditions you continued with them as well , trips to OC , Xmas eve at your house and of course David and Brian's birthdays dinners..... :-) We will ALWAYS love you and never forget what you taught us. Rest easy knowing that we will now carry on with all that you left us with and one day we will have that giant family reunion in heaven. Give my mom and Mo a big hug and kiss for me and tell them to continue to watch out for us.......Love you always , Gary

Dear David and Brian, I feel very blessed to know all of you.  I loved your mom from the first moment I got my first hug from her at Christmas.  She was so warm, loving with a open heart to me.  I felt blessed when she shared her kind words to me, she said  "welcome to the family".  I will keep those words with me forever.  She now has found peace with the powers above, and with her family.  We shall all spend eternity together in time.

Miss Dee was my second mom growing up just as she was to a lot of us kids in Aero Acres. Her loving talks and caring ways and big warm hugs will be remembered by many, Love and thoughts and prayers for David, Brian and everyone who knew and loved her.

Miss Dee was such a beautiful lady. Dave and I are saddened by her loss.  She was a great friend for many years to my mother Arlene Smith. The entire family is in our prayers.
