

Gaynel Mae (Mickey) Buterbaugh (nee McGuire), age 91, of Baltimore, MD, passed away on March 6, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late John E. Buterbaugh, Sr.; devoted mother of John Edward "Jeb" Buterbaugh, Jr. and his wife Michele, and Karen "Beth" Stem and her husband Dave; loving grandmother of Brian Buterbaugh, Kristin Terry, Kevin Buterbaugh, Tucker Stem, David Stem, and Danielle Stem; cherished great-grandmother of Riley Stem, Kerra Kavalas, Ryan Stem, Dustin Stem, and Makenzie Stem. Also survived by many loving extended family members and friends.
Mickey graduated from Church Home & Hospital School of Nursing in 1952, which lead to a 38 year career of caring for others as a Registered Nurse. Her volunteer & community service activities included PTA, Scouting, and The Salvation Army, as well as being an active member in Zitta Temple No. 27, Daughters of the Nile, for 28 years. She was the Captain of the Zitta Patrol and Marshal of Zitta Temple for many years. Her love of helping the Shrine Children led her to belonging and participating in several Shrine and Masonic clubs.
Mickey will also be remembered for her talents & creativity witnessed in the 100's of arts & craft projects she created over the years that were proudly displayed in her home, as well as those of her family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Schimunek Funeral Home of Bel Air, 610 W. MacPhail RD, Bel Air, MD, on Friday, March 17, 2023, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 11 AM, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Bel Air Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Gaynel's name to the Shriners Hospitals for Children at www.lovetotherescue.org.
