

Jose had a joyful Puerto Rican personality known as Chispa, beautiful green eyes, a loud accent, and expressive conversations with his hands. He navigated every stage of his life with strong will and hard work. His remarkable spirit will be dearly missed.
Born on April 3, 1938, in Humacao, Puerto Rico, Jose was the eldest of seven children to Jose Cintron and Berta Cadiz. At 12, he moved with his family to Jersey City, New Jersey. At 18, Jose was drafted into the National Guard. Following his calling to become a soldier he volunteered for the Army. He became a Paratrooper, jumping from planes with the 82nd Airborne Division. Ultimately earning the rank of Sergeant First Class and a Vietnam Veteran. While stationed in Panama, he met the love of his life, Marisol Rocio Cintron, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.
Jose’s military career spanned 24 years. After retirement in Maryland he went on to own a carpet cleaning and landscaping business. He proudly maintained the APG CAPA field each summer. A talented cook, he cooked for priests at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Highland, Baltimore and volunteered for socials at Aberdeen Proving Ground Chapel. His signature dishes included arroz con pollo and pancakes.
A dedicated gardener all his life, specializing in hydroponics. He enthusiastically grew indoor vegetables until his final summer. He loved being with his family, pets, cooking, eating good food, driving his car, Civil War movies, Hollywood musicals and his apple watch. He cherished long video calls with his daughter and lively conversations with his neighbors.
Jose is survived by his beloved wife, Marisol Rocio Cintron, his devoted daughter, Rocio Cintron, Javier Beltran, his dear sisters, Sonia and Aidita, in Puerto Rico and his cherished four-legged companions, Frida and Mimi.
A celebration of Jose’s life will be held in the spring at the APG Chapel. Veteran Services to be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Condolences can be sent to the family at 1021 Ensor Drive, Joppa, MD 21085.
