January 20, 1979 – October 24, 2024
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Koakbar “Ko” Alexander, a gifted musician, talented playwright, and dedicated paralegal, who passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024, at the age of 45.
Born on January 20, 1979, Koakbar's life was shaped by two great passions: the performing arts and justice. As a paralegal, he devoted over 30 years to supporting legal professionals with meticulous research, unwavering diligence, and a deep commitment to fairness. Ko's expertise helped countless individuals navigate the complexities of the legal system, always with compassion and integrity. His colleagues remember him as a pillar of dependability, known for his sharp mind and heart of gold. He was the first recipient of an award honoring Maryland Legal Aid staff for going above and beyond, embodying the values and spirit of the organization, and he was also nominated for the prestigious Carlos Braxton Award.
Outside of his legal work, Ko was an accomplished musician and playwright through his company, Ko Showe Kwality Entertainment. His love for the performing arts began in childhood, serving as a music director in several churches. Over the years, he mastered multiple instruments, bringing joy through performances from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Baltimore, Maryland, where he often enjoyed what he called “Big Fun.” Whether playing in local bands, in theater productions, or composing and recording in the quiet of his home, music and theater were his sanctuary and his means of connecting with the world. His talent and creativity were boundless, and his work reflected the depth of his soul.
A kind, gentle, helpful, and passionate son, brother, and uncle, Ko never ceased to support others throughout his life. Who Dat?? A proud Saints fan... that’s who.
Ko is survived by his loving family, including his mother, Rhonda Alexander; two sisters, Kigonia McMillan and Yolanda Alexander; two brothers, Robert L. Alexander, III (Avis) and Kuntay Alexander (Tammara); his Legal family at Maryland Legal Aid; as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and a large extended family of cousins. His memory will also be cherished by his many colleagues and fellow musicians whose lives he touched, both in the courtroom and on stage.
A celebration of Ko’s life, blending his passion for music, the arts, and law, will be held on Wednesday, October 30, at Schimunek Funeral Home of Bel Air, 610 W. MacPhail Rd, Bel Air, MD 21014 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM; with a time for sharing to start at 7:00 PM.
