Louis C. Gugliuzza, of Forest Hill, Maryland, passed on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the age of 78 after a long history of heart disease. Lou was born on April 2, 1945, to Louis and Helen Gugliuzza (née Bender) in the Gardenville neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland.
After graduating from Baltimore City College, Lou earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland, College Park. As a young man, Lou served in the United States Coast Guard. In 1974, he and Susan Mincsik met in the Epiphany Lutheran Church choir, and the two were married in 1980. Lou and Susan adopted and welcomed two daughters, Dana and Elana, into their family.
Lou is known for being a dedicated public servant, proudly serving the Federal Government’s Social Security Administration and retiring as SSA’s Director of the Career/Life Resource Center after 43 years. For fun, Lou enjoyed boating, swimming, fishing, skiing, building and expanding his homes, working in his garden, cooking and feeding others, and found the most joy being with his family laughing and joking. In his retirement, Lou loved spending time in his Florida home and building and painting mechanical wooden models. He created many close, meaningful and life-long friendships throughout his years, and will be remembered as a special, jovial, and one-of-a-kind man.
Lou was predeceased by his parents and brother Donald Renner, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife Susan Gugliuzza, daughters Dana Hamby and Elana Gugliuzza, son-in-law Austin Hamby, and grandson Weston Hamby.
A Celebration of Life for Lou will be held in Havre de Grace, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in his honor to the non-profit adoption organization Children’s Home Society and Lutheran Social Service.
