Joyce I (Bebee) Penney, 86, of Belton, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. Born in Malta, MT, on September 3, 1935, she was preceded in death by her parents, Bethuel and Elsie Bebee, sisters, Anna Mae, Ruth, Betty and Jackie; brothers Sidney, Jim and Richard. Joyce is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bobby Penney, of the home; their children, Joye (Casey) Conklin, Belton, MO, Bobby (Laurie) Penney, Tonasket WA, Gaye (Kent) Rankin, Belton, MO, and Janelle (Mike) Griggs, Pompano Beach FL; half-brother Tom Hayden and brother-in-law Thomas Charlton; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Joyce and Bob met while he was stationed at McChord AFB and she was attending Pacific Lutheran College in Tacoma, WA. After a whirlwind courtship of six months, they married on June 7, 1954. They had an everlasting love and respect for each other and were wonderful role models for their children.
Joyce took great pride in the annual harvest of Bob’s Garden, and they enjoyed canning and cooking together. She was an avid reader and loved to sew and crochet. She took great pleasure in gifting her afghans, especially to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joyce and her family were charter members of the Lord of Love Lutheran Church in Belton. She was a Christian of strong faith who was devoted to her family.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 5, service at 10:30 AM, at McGilley & George Funeral Home, 611 Chestnut, Belton, Mo. Luncheon following at 505 Berry, Belton, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Lord of Love Lutheran Church (8306 E 171st St Belton) or the Belton Educational Foundation (110 W Walnut, Belton).
