Richard Walter Jakeman (“Rick” or “Jake”) 67, Cass County, Missouri, passed away Monday, January 10, 2022. Born June 20, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri, Rick was the son of the late Richard Kenneth and Mary Ann Jakeman. Rick graduated Belton High School and later partnered with his friend to build their own lawn and turf irrigation business, Jakeman-Kimes Lawn Sprinkler Company. The growth of his business was based on relationships, which were always important to him. Because of this, his installations are present throughout the greater Kansas City area at many homes and landmark locations including sports stadiums, resorts and other notable spots. Rick grew up on a farm, and he had a love of the outdoors that started early and was strengthened through an active life on the farm. When he wasn’t in school, he spent time taking full advantage of the outdoors; riding horses, caring for animals and climbing trees. Throughout his life, he continued to spend his spare time outside. He was passionate about fishing and hunting, and during his later years, he moved to his cabin to be closer to the outdoors. He had close friends who often spent time together there.
Rick is survived by his sister Kathryn Ann Jakeman Bush, his brother-in-law Steven Bush, nieces Melissa Ann Bush Mihalick and Alison Marie Bush Strelitz, and their children Lucy, Gus, Henry, Miles and Jakeman (who is proudly carrying on the nickname “Jake”). He is also survived by many close friends and Rex, his four-legged companion and best friend.
