Born as Nicolasa’s son Edwin Arana Jr. was a proud Puerto Rican, devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to so many.
For those who know his love story with his wife Aida of 43 years, you recognize the dedication and commitment that existed in their marriage. Their love story began as teenagers in junior high. When Edwin left to serve in the military as a radar technician he and his true love were separated for a number of years and were reunited six years later when their love story continued.
When Nicole was eight years old, Edwin asked permission to marry her mom. The couple was wed on January 2, 1982. Their wedding song was “Reunited” by Peaches and Herb, and this incredible blended family was created.
Edwin loved all three of his children, Bernard, Nicole and Edward James unconditionally. Our family was taught to never use the word “step”. We connected as a family and bonded as true siblings. We were taught that Love Makes a Family.
Over the years, Edwin endured many struggles but fought for his wife and his family. He was a proud recovering addict who maintained his sobriety for close to 35 years. He was committed to working on himself and becoming closer to God. Over the years, Edwin volunteered in many capacities, working his program and helping others to find their way toward their sobriety.
His recovery though, was not his only struggle.
In the early spring of 2004, his cancer journey began. His prostate was removed in April of 2005 while he was awaiting the birth of his fourth grandchild, Colby James.
Edwin endured countless treatments and hospitalizations with a true desire to stay by his wife’s side and to share the love for his family. Over the course of the past 20 years, Edwin became a grandfather to a total of 7 grandchildren and is expecting an 8th in July 2025.
Edwin’s love for Alexa, Camryn, Bernard, Colby, Ella, Cooper and Lily was immeasurable. He had such pride in their academic and professional accomplishments and would share them with anyone who would listen. He was a very present grandfather who will be missed.
Edwin touched the lives of so many in his 75 years on this earth and will be missed by all who were fortunate to have crossed his path. He was a committed family member whose connections to family were strong. In fact, every one of his nieces swear that they were the favorite.
Edwin died peacefully in his home in Beverly Hills, Florida with family sounding him. He reconciled with his passing and the beautiful life he created with his soul mate and was ready to turn his journey to the lord.
God Speed Dad. We love you forever.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you consider planting a tree in Edwin’s honor. Edwin loved his plants and loved to work his land.
