Born on June 14, 1964, in Boston, Massachusetts, Ginger graduated from Madison High School and went on to earn her degree as a computer operator from the Computer Learning Center in Somerville, Massachusetts. Later in life, she returned to school to pursue her love of working with children and spent time employed at a daycare center.
Ginger shared a beautiful love story with her husband, Craig Smith. They met 47 years ago on Talbot Avenue in Boston at a skating rink—both wearing matching yellow sweatsuits, perfectly complementing Craig’s yellow moped—and they remained inseparable from that day forward. They were married on February 14, 1987, and built a life together grounded in love, faith, and devotion.
Throughout her career, Ginger worked in customer service across several industries, including banking, utilities, and retail. She was employed by First Federal Savings and Loan, SunTrust Financial Bank, and Seco Electric, and also held part-time positions at Walmart and Burger King. She was intelligent, determined, and took pride in her work, but what mattered most to her was always people.
Ginger had a rare gift for encouraging and uplifting others. She offered wisdom, kindness, and unwavering support to everyone she met. She lived her faith daily, reflecting God’s love through her compassion, forgiveness, and generosity. Even during her illness, she demonstrated remarkable strength, dignity, and grace, always thinking of others before herself.
She had a passion for designing, shopping for her beloved grandchildren, and cheering on her Boston sports teams. Her family was her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.
Ginger was preceded in death by her mother, Viola Moore; her father, Lawrence Holmes; and her sister, Lisa Holmes.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 38 years, Craig Smith; her sons, Craig Smith II and Derrick Smith; her daughters-in-law, Deanna and Lauren, whom she loved as her own; and her cherished grandchildren, Craig “Tre’” III, Giuliana, and Kai. She is also survived by her brother, Stevie; her sisters, Debbie, Cathy, Renee, and Tracy; as well as many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love and presence.
For Craig, Ginger was his partner, best friend, constant companion, and greatest blessing. Her legacy of faith, love, and strength lives on in her children, grandchildren, and in all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her life was a blessing. Her love was a gift. Her memory will remain in the hearts of those who love her—until they meet again.
