Judy was born on September 16, 1938, in Decatur, IL the daughter of Charles Edward and Lillian Earlene (Major) Hanes. She attended Decatur High School, graduating in 1956, and went on to graduate from Millikin University in 1960, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. Judy retired from Decatur Public School District, having spent the majority of her time there teaching first grade. Judy was a member of Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing, and spending time with family.
Surviving is her husband Richard “Bud” Riedel of Citrus Springs; children: Ann Barker (Kip) of Uniondale, IN; Joe Riedel of Citrus Springs, FL; Sarah Johnson (Ron) of Mt. Zion, IL; grandchildren: Emily Heidlauf (Peter), Lilly Barker, A.J. Johnson, Judith Riedel, and James Riedel.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents and brother James.
A private family service will be held in Florida. An additional memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Decatur, IL at a later date. Inurnment will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery, Decatur, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to the Seven Rivers Christian School, 4221 W. Gulf to Lake Highway, Lecanto, FL 34461.
