

Peter E. Sfameni, 73 of Citrus Hills, Florida passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013 in Tampa, Florida. Peter and his wife, Gloria are former residents of Dix Hills, New York. He was born on Tuesday, February 20, 1940 in Reading, Pennsylvania to Anthony and Grace (Carolla) Sfameni. Peter was a retired Colonel with the United States Air Force, serving for over 24 years. During his flying career, he spent ten years in B-52’s including 187 combat missions in Vietnam. He also, had flown F-111’s at Edwards AFB, followed by four years at strategic command HQ (SAC) as B-1B staff officer and then, two years at Edwards AFB flight test center. Peter graduated from Air War College class of ’79, followed by one year as Base Commander of Johnston Atoll in the Pacific. His final assignment was at Andrews AFB, where he retired as the Director of Low Observables (stealth) Technology. Among his awards are seven air medals, the Distinguished Flying Cross and Legion of Merit. After his retirement from the USAF, he was a defense consultant in D.C. for four years, followed by 20 years as an executive in the defense industry. Peter moved to this area five years ago from Dix Hills, New York. He was a member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church and was very active in playing golf, working out in the gym, the outdoors and traveling. He loved living in Terra Vista in Citrus Hills, Florida but most of all, he loved being surrounded by wonderful friends.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Sfameni of Citrus Hills, Florida; sons, Steven Sfameni of Nashua, New Hampshire and Frederick Tamburo of Orlando, Florida; daughters, Jolynn Pehlke and husband Kevin of Leesburg, Virginia, Kristi Sutherland and husband, Major Justin Sutherland of Ashburn, Virginia and Linda Anne Tamburo-Norrby of Kings Park, New York; sisters, Rose Waligorski of Temple, Pennsylvania and Sandra Duddy of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Jacqueline Sfameni of Manchester, New Hampshire, Samantha Sfameni of Hooksett, New Hampshire, Jake and Mitchell Pehlke both of Leesburg, Virginia and Peter and Rhyan Sutherland both of Ashburn, Virginia and Maria Noelle Norrby of Kings Park, New York; former spouse, Jeanette Sfameni of Clearwater, Florida and daughter-in-law, Sonja Sfameni of Manchester, New Hampshire.
Peter's Funeral Mass, took place on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Lecanto, Florida. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
