Sarah Jane Maier (Kunsman) passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2026. If someone asked Sarah what her favorite color was she’d tell you “yellow or anything bright”. If you knew Sarah, you’d know why- bright colors matched her personality. She was quick to crack and joke and loved to laugh. The thing that she loved more than laughing was her husband, Darryl Maier, whom she was married to for 30 years and her family. Sarah and Darryl have a blended family with 11 kids and 12 grandkids, and 1 grandchild.
Sarah moved from Pennsylvania to St. Petersburg, Florida - doing what most people do, trying to escape the snow. She was 1 of 6 kids. Born to Richard and Shirley Kunsman on February 1, 1957. As much as she loved growing up in Pennsylvania and living there- Sarah loved the warm sunny beaches of Florida.
Sarah loved watching the Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play- even when the teams weren’t doing well, she didn’t lose faith. That faith is something that also carried into everyday life. Sarah was a Christian who believed in showing God’s love to everyone. She believed in showing kindness and compassion, even when it was hard. She chose to see the good in people.
Sarah is proceeded in death by her parents: Richard and Shirley. Her Stepson Scott Maier. Her older brother Leonard Kunsman.
While Sarah’s death leaves behind a crater in her family. The memories of love and laughter will comfort them in her absence. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for a donation to be made in Sarah’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, a disease Sarah passionately hoped a cure would be found for.
