Alexander James Usher, Jr., 91, of Birmingham passed away on Monday, February 17, 2014. He was preceded in death by his Father, Alexander James Usher, Sr, his mother Hallie Mae Baker, and his Son, Charles Alexander Usher. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Dison Usher, 4 grandchildren: Honor Usher Hightshue (Doug), Christopher Alexander Usher (Martha), Laurel Usher Francescon (TW), and Alexander Franklin Usher, and 9 great-grandchildren. He was an Army Veteran of World War 2. He was an active man with a love for life. He and Mary loved Ballroom Dancing and traveling. He was an avid golfer into his late 80’s. He was a skilled craftsman and woodworker and made many pieces of furniture that are loved by family members. He was retired from US Steel and a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel on Wednesday, February 19th at 1:15 with a grave side service at 2:00 at Elmwood Cemetery. Rev David Byrd will be officiating.
