Birmingham, Alabama. Born on May 27, 1961, in Winston Salem, North Carolina, she was known
affectionately as Allyson to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Allyson grew up in Murfreesboro, TN as the youngest child of Peggy Young Miller and Dr. J. Howard
(Bud) Young. Growing up she had a love of all animals, especially dogs and horses. In addition to being
in the marching band and showing Arabian Horses in competitions, she was the Homecoming Queen
her senior year.
She met the love of her life, David George, at Samford University. After marrying on May 12, 1984 they
started their life together in Washington, DC. Allyson worked in Human Resources at the Federal
National Mortgage Association until her children were born: Kyle and Katelyn. She stayed home to
pour her life into her precious son and daughter.
The family moved back to the Birmingham area in 1992 and lived in Hoover, AL. When the children
were in middle school Allyson returned to work in the Hoover School System's HR department -- to be
near her kids. Eventually, she moved to HOAR Construction as the Director of Human Resources until
she retired in 2012.
Whether at home with her family, at work or in the community, she was the same person. Full of joy
and full of God's love which she openly shared with everyone. She was known as a Godly woman
whose prayers could move you to the Father's Throne. All who met her loved her. We all were blessed
to have her in our lives.
Soon after her retirement, at age 51 she was diagnosed with younger onset Alzheimer's. Over the long
journey she never lost her joy or her openness about sharing God's love with all who came in touch
with her.
David, Kyle and Katelyn are grateful to our extended family, our employers, our church family and
friends around the world who stood beside Allyson and each of us during this time. We are grateful to
several organizations that provided compassionate and loving care to her during this time: Encore
Respite, The Oaks on Parkwood, Family Private Care, and LifeCare Solutions.
Allyson's grandparents, father (Bud Young) and stepfather (Billy Miller) predeceased her. Left to
cherish her memories and honor her life are her husband of 40 years, David George, her son, Kyle
George and his family Lynne (wife) Grayson & Graham (sons); her daughter Katelyn Bruhn and Mitchell
(husband); her mother, Peggy Miller; brother Don Young (wife Laura); mother-in-law, Jackie George;
Aunts Larraine Flannagan and Elaine Todd (husband John); and numerous cousins; as well as her
caretaker and best friend, Kesha Williams; along with her beloved “Buddy of the World” Kathy Miller.
Each of these loved her and will miss her greatly.
In addition to dogs and horses, Allyson loved flowers so feel free to send them. She also loved giving
financially to God's Kingdom. If you prefer to honor her memory in this way, the family suggests giving
to Shades Crest Baptist Church (https://shadescrest.org/give/) who has sustained us in ways too
numerous to tell; or to the Alzheimer's Association of Alabama through her Walk to End Alzheimer's
Team: Grace 4 Her (https://act.alz.org/goto/Grace4Her ). Or feel free to give to the ministry of your
choice in her memory.
A Memorial Service celebrating Allyson’s life will be held on Thursday, September 12 at 11 AM in the
Sanctuary of Shades Crest Baptist Church. The family will meet with friends before the Service starting
at 9 AM in the SCBC Fellowship Hall.
Service will be live streamed starting at 11am on SCBC Youtube channel.
