

Alvin age 86 of Birmingham went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 31st. He proudly served in the United States Navy from April 1944 to June 1945 and then graduated from West End High School, class of 1947. Alvin went on to work at US Steel as a welder and retired after 37 years of service. He loved square dancing and called for the Western Schufflers and the Swinging Stars in Birmingham and was involved in the Alabama Jubilee. Alvin was a Boy Scout leader in the 1960’s and 70’s and achieved the Silver Beaver Award. He became one of the founding fathers of the Magic City Railroad Club that started many years ago. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William F. Kesler; brother, Herman Kesler; and sister, Flora Kesler Fredrick. A loving husband for 67 years to Virginia Poe Kesler and loving father to DyAnne Sapp(Ted), Alvin F. Kesler, Jr.(Charlotte), Karl Kesler(Vickie), and Larry Kesler(Kristi). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jennifer Ellis(Mike), Duane Kesler(Allison), Shannon Huggins(Piet), Ashley Kesler, Kenny Kesler(Kayla), Bailey Kesler, Mikey Kesler; four step grandchildren, Teddy Sapp(Kelly), Stephanie Bishop(Eric), Jason Mayfield and Crashell Mayfield; seven great grandchildren, Tiffany, Sarah and Chris Ellis, Nina Kesler, Lorren and Breana Huggins, and Malena Kesler; and three step great grandchildren, Sydney and Rachell Bynum and Ava Mayfield.
