

Ann was born on October 28, 1946, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Ann Christine (Powell) Sullivan and Garland Cecil Sullivan, Jr. Ann attended Shades Valley High School, Class of 1964, in Birmingham. She was a graduate of Greenbrier College in Lewisburg, West Virginia and obtained her B.A. degree from Texas Wesleyan University in Ft. Worth, Texas, and earned a master’s and AA degree in elementary education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She taught school for 27 years, including many years as a remedial math teacher and reading specialist at Irondale Community School, and was an active member of Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook where she enjoyed being a member of the Family Fellowship Dinner Committee.
Ann was a very giving person and served in many volunteer capacities. She was a member of the Birmingham-Southern College Gala and Fine Arts Council, a Sustainer of the Junior League of Birmingham, and volunteered with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. One of the most cherished volunteer positions she held was Ticket Chair for the Miss Alabama Organization, a job that she did for many years, and which earned her the 1999 Miss Alabama Service Award. She deeply loved the Miss Alabama contestants and their families, the local directors and their volunteers, and the former Miss Alabama titleholders, and they all loved her back.
Ann was humorous, gregarious, friendly, and always willing to lend a helping hand. She was an avid reader, loved to hand sew and needlepoint, and was an enthusiastic fan of anything regarding Alabama football.
Ann is survived by relatives Belle Powell Brightwell of Columbus, Georgia; Thomas F. Ford IV of Los Angeles, California; Dana Odum McCarn (Charles J.) of Birmingham; Andrew W. Odum (Marilynn) of Asheville, North Carolina; Charles Stewart Money, Jr. (Laura) of Hayden; Nola Kate Money of Hayden; Mark K. Money of Batumi, Republic of Georgia; and Lucy Odum Money of Huntsville.
Graveside services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, on Monday, May 18, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ann’s memory to the Miss Alabama Organization Scholarship Fund at 2809 Crescent Avenue, Suite 2, Birmingham, Alabama, 35209.
