
Betty Jean Wingard, age 86, of Oneonta passed away on January 19, 2016. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, aunt, sister-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Jackson Wingard; son Nathan Stone Wingard; and sister Ann W. Harrison.
Betty is survived by her son, James Wesley Wingard of Oneonta; grandsons Christopher (Laurie) Wingard of McCalla and Robert (Rachel) Wingard of Pinson; daughter-in-law Sheila M. Wingard of Moody; great-granddaughter Harper Stone Wingard and soon to be great-grandson Jackson Wingard; sister Martha Vallia of Pensacola, Florida; sisters-in-law Rebecca (George) Cobb of Cedar Bluff and Jettye Yeckley of Birmingham; brother-in-law Herbert (Norma) Wingard of Trussville; special niece Barbara A. Harrison of Trussville; and many other nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Betty was born and raised in Birmingham and graduated from Phillips High School. She worked at Battam Insulation, where she met and later married her husband Jim. Betty retired to become a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed participating in many clubs and activities, gardening, reading and spoiling her grandsons. She was of the Methodist faith.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Southern Care Hospice of Hanceville for their loving care and to Betty’s angels on earth, her caregivers: Mike, Tammy, Dolly, Jeff and A. J. – we couldn’t have done it without you.
Visitation will be 11:00 AM on Friday January 22, 2016 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with the funeral service following at 12 noon. Burial immediately following at Marvin’s Chapel Cemetery in Pinson, Alabama. Dr. George W. Cobb officiating.
