MIZE, WILLIAM “BILLY” WAYNE, age 81, of Hoover, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on March 4, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Eugene Mize and Elizabeth Aileen Mize, and by his in-laws, Thomas W. Ray, Jr. and Dorothy Bellmore Ray.
Billy was raised in Wylam, Alabama, where his faith was shaped by his beloved mother and as a member of Martin Memorial Methodist Church. He graduated from Ensley High School in 1962, the place where he met Dillie, the love of his life. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army, assigned to the 715th Maintenance Company as a mechanic. He developed a gift for repair that became one of his lifelong trademarks, his remarkable ability to fix anything. Later in his career, he was a Regional Vice President for Primerica Financial Services. Helping those around him was his calling in life.
Above all, Billy found his greatest joy in time spent with family and friends, especially the peaceful days at the family home on Smith Lake, fishing, caring for the yard, and cooking meals that brought everyone together.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 58 years, Dillie Ray Mize; his sister, Linda Ann (Dale) Burttram; his sons, Brad (Audra) Mize and Scott (Monica) Mize; his daughter, Audrey (Chad) Daniel; and eight beloved grandchildren: Bailey Mize, Billy Mize, Henry Mize, Madison Daniel, Emily Daniel, Caroline Daniel, Vincent Malone, and Jake Malone.
Visitation will be held on March 6, 2026, at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel beginning at 12:00 p.m., with funeral services to follow at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held afterward in Elmwood Cemetery. In addition to flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
