Carolyn was a graduate of Ensley High School where she was a majorette. She also attended the University of Alabama. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and a Corolla Beauty.
In January of 1953 she was married on the "Bride and Groom" television show in New York City. They were married for 53 wonderful years. In the 1980s she worked beside her husband, Bill at the "Tutwiler Drugstore", serving friendly smiles, delicious sandwiches, and milkshakes. In the 1990s she was a realtor with Johnson, Rast, and Hays.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn "Bill" Gibbs; sister, Betty Jo Jackson Taylor; and parents Stella and Joseph Jackson. She is survived by her children, Cynthia Gibbs, Gregory Gibbs (Cheri), and Julie Gibbs Owen (Mike); granddaughters, Elizabeth Spratt (Steven) and Laura Holtzclaw (Josh); four great-grandchildren; special sisters in love and loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was a cherished and adored mother and will forever be remembered for being a precious Christian mother that set a fine example for her children. She was a wonderful cook, so much fun, and overfilled with sweetness and joy. She will be greatly missed until the day, we, her loved ones, meet together again in Heaven.
Due to Covid being so contagious, a private immediate family graveside service will be held. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, who she loved so very much.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.johnsridoutselmwoodchapel.com for the Gibbs family.
