

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Sarah Dorris (Blackburn). He and Sarah met at Florence State Teachers College, where they both attended and graduated. Following graduation, Drew entered the army, where he was stationed at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga. and served as a military policeman.
In 1970, Drew and his family moved to Birmingham, Ala. where he was employed with Stockham Valve, before becoming Warehouse Manager for Baptist Hospitals.
Drew was a member of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church for 47 years, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for the Toddler’s class. He had a genuine love for all children and never met a stranger.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, Drew B. Dorris Sr. and Nell Dorris of Aliceville, Ala, his sisters, Ruth Dalkhe and Bobbie Shelton, both of Aliceville, Ala., his sister Myra Carson of Birmingham, his brother Joe Dorris of Birmingham, and his son-in-law, Ken Chaffin of Albertville, Ala.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Kathy Chaffin of Albertville, Ala., Jenise Dunn (Jimmy) of Blakely, Ga., and Denise Bradberry (Phil) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., his sister, Gayle Maloy of Birmingham, Ala., and his six grandchildren, Kenny Chaffin (Courtnie) of Guntersville, Ala., Kari Quinones (Tony) of Huntsville, Ala., Jonathan Bradberry (Tuesdai) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Julia Bradberry of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Jaclyn Decker (Josh) of Birmingham, Ala., and Kelly Dunn of Atlanta, Ga., and his six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Sarah Dorris to the Alzheimer’s Association.
A funeral service for Drew will be held Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Johns-Ridout's Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave S.W., Birmingham, AL 35211. A burial will occur at Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum, 600 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Birmingham, Alabama 35211.
