

Elizabeth (Libby) Ondrick Ryan Harris age 92 passed away on February 14, 2025. Libby was a native of southern Ohio. As a 1950 graduate of Belmont High School, she was a member of the band, glee club, and ensemble. Libby was one of the two senior students selected to receive the Babe Ruth Sportsmanship Medal & Belmont High School was awarded the Babe Ruth Sportsmanship Plaque. It was one of the most outstanding events happening to the school & students. She loved gospel & country music.
Libby was employed by Ohio Bell Telephone Company in 1953. In 1962, she transferred to Southern Bell in Birmingham, Alabama where she resided. For 23 years she was secretary to several Engineering Department heads prior to her 1991 retirement from BELLSOUTH with 37 ½ years of service. For 23 years, she dressed dolls for the Telephone Pioneers of America & Salvation Army Doll Festivals, winning many ribbons & certificates of appreciation. Since June 2002 as a volunteer of Heart of Alabama –Threads of Love, she made over 6000 gowns, bonnets, blankets, and lovidolls for newborns in the NICU for area hospitals. She also made & donated fleece blankets for the Rescue Quilts & Blankets Project, which were given to various Birmingham police precincts until it was discontinued. Since 2004, Libby filled shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. For several years, she donated socks & school supplies to Alabama Foster & Adoptive Association. She was a good neighbor & willing to help others in need.
She was a monthly supporter of the Primitive Baptist Hour radio broadcast. Libby had been a Primitive Baptist since 1965. As a faithful & devoted member of Mt. Pleasant Home Primitive Baptist Church in Fultondale, Alabama, her love was demonstrated by her generous financial help to the needs of the church from 1991 until in disbarred in June 2009. She attended & supported other area Primitive Baptist churches until joined Vestavia Primitive Baptist Church on September 11, 2011, where she was a member at the time of her death.
Libby was preceded in death by her parents, Michael & Mary (Mundichuck) Ondrick; brothers, Mike, John, George, Joe, Paul, Steve & Andy Ondrick; sisters, Mary Jones & Helen Porter; former husband, Elder Ronald Ryan; son, Ricky Ryan; her late husband, Marshall L. Harris, Sr., & sisters-in-law, Mickey Ondrick, Wilda Ondrick, & Juanita Stuart. Survivors include many nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel at 2pm on Thursday, February 20, 2025; with viewing from 12 until 2. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Pastor Josh Coker.
