Elsie Jean Bass

BASS, ELSIE JEAN WEST, age87 of Birmingham, passed away Monday, August 3, 2015. She is survived by her daughter, Donna J. Baird (Larry); son, Mark E. Bass; extended family, Laurence A. Baird, Jr. (Colleen) and their children, Allison and Julianne Baird; and numerous nieces and nephews. Elsie was the 10th and last surviving child of 11 born to William Lawson and Nettie Eugenia West. She lived in Phelan, AL until she graduated from Cullman High School in 1947. She attended business college and made lifelong friends through living at Eva Comer Home and later through the 5:30 Club. She was a member of Huffman Baptist Church for 58 years and secretary of her sunday school class. She loved Mexican Train Dominoes and played regularly with the Fancy Frees at St. John UMC and the singles dept. at Huffman Baptist. Elsie retired from Southtrust Bank after 13 years of service. She enjoyed her final months living at Rocky Ridge Retirement making new friends and participating in activities. Her family will receive friends on Friday, August 7, 2015 from 9:30 – 11:00 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with her service beginning at 11:00 with Bro. Larry Smith officiating. There will be a graveside service at Fairview West Cemetery in Hanceville at 2:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Senior Adult Ministry at Huffman Baptist Church.
