He was a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church, a Mason, a Shriner, and former member of the Naval Reserve. Mr. McCarty was predeceased by his parents, a son (David E. McCarty), a sister (Joyce McCarty Kirkley), and a brother (Thomas W. McCarty).
