Ernesteen Shaw Jones was born on September 10, 1934 in Walker County, Alabama. She spent her last day at home on Christmas Day with her entire family by her side, She passed away on December 28, 2022 at 12:24 PM.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband (Harry Lee Jones), her parents (Clayton and Opal Shaw), her brothers (James and Webb Shaw), and her grandson (Marc Smith). She is survived by her sisters (LaMuriel Smothers and Olean Robinson), her daughters (Teri Smith [Bo] and Carol Jones), as well as five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She often told stories of playing basketball in high school, chasing after her little brother, and mostly detailed memories of her late husband - Harry - who served as a Birmingham Police Officer. Ernesteen worked as an accountant at Homer A. Jackson Company for more than 30 years and was a wonderful mother to her two daughters, Teri and Carol; she was also a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother (better known as "Nana") to Tara, Tammy, Marc, Marcie, Melissa, Harrison, Mallory, and Silas. Ernesteen had a love for bowling, Atlanta Braves baseball, all things purple, but mostly her family. She dearly missed her husband, Harry, for 45 years and her recently passed grandson, Marc, for the past 2 months. Let us all rejoice and be glad that she is now reunited with two of her favorite people and take comfort in knowing that she is "Never Alone," also the title of her favorite hymn.
Visitation will be at John-Ridouts Elmwood Maple Room on Monday, January 02, 2023 at 1:00 PM. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM. Those attending should meet in the parking lot of John-Ridouts Elmwood at 1:45 PM to proceed to Ernesteen's graveside service.
Ernesteen will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum, 600 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Birmingham, AL 35211-2835; Block 1st Ad 5.
