

, USAF (Ret. ’76) of Trussville, AL, passed away Fri., March 30, 2012. Born in Muskegon, MI, to Michael Voyt & Edna Grzybowski, he is survived by his wife Margaret (Kropf) of 57 years; children Michael of Tampa, FL; Gregory (Jayne) of Chesapeake, VA; Laura of Chicago, IL; Chaplain Lt. Col. Stephen Moody Air Force Base; Matthew of Shalimar, FL; Paula Kratz of Maryville, TN; 5 grandchildren Courtney, Haley, Jessica, Kevin, Sarah; his brothers Robert (Nancy) of Muskegon, MI; Thomas (Joyce) of Muskegon, MI; & his sister Mary Anne of River View, MI. He is preceded in death by his parents Michael and Edna, his stepmother Marie Piechowka, & his sisters Lorraine (Voyt) Inglat, and Judith & Elizabeth Voyt. He served in the USAF from ‘53 –’76. He served as a navigator & engineer in research & development. For 6 1/2 years he was in charge of the procurement of all ground support equipment of the A-7 attack fighter/bomber. He then was assigned to the Inspector General’s Office in Washington, D.C., & later to the test wing at Eglin AFB in Florida. After retirement, Gene and Margaret made Shalimar their home for the next 31 years where he worked in Real Estate. They eventually moved to Trussville, AL, where they have lived for the last 6 years. Gene enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing golf, traveling the world with his family, being a Lay Eucharistic Minister for the Catholic church, & spending time with family & friends. Family & friends will be celebrating his life at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel on Mon., April 2 from 5-7. The rosary will be said at 7 PM. A funeral mass will be at Holy Infant of Prague Church on Tues., April 3 at 10 AM and a military burial will follow at Montevallo Nat’l Cemetery at 2:45.
