Eunice Alandra Parks passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the age of 80. She was born on July 9, 1944, to Jewel Dow and Lovetis (Bice) Etheredge in Birmingham, Alabama. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Homer and Eunice Bice.
She attended Woodlawn High School where she met her husband, William (Hal) Parks, Jr. and they married on May 13, 1961. After staying home to raise her two daughters, she served in several ministries. Alandra was a prayer partner for Heritage Home, a women's ministry founded by her mentor, Mary Oates, that shared God's plan for building a spiritual home. She also served as a core leader and area director for Community Bible Study. Alandra, along with her husband, was called and ultimately served with the ministry, Freedom in Christ. They traveled extensively in the U.S. and other countries for this ministry and became sought-after biblical counselors, pointing believers to see and believe their identity in Christ. Their travels led them to many places but their hearts and ministry were changed after visiting Russia. Alandra's heart for the people of Russia continued to the end of her life.
She was a long-time member of Faith Chapel and more recently The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham. She and her husband were involved in Sunday School and other small groups at the church.
Alandra was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved the Lord, friends and family, sharing the good news of the Gospel of Christ, and the freedom He offers believers. Alandra was also a gifted artist. She along with friends created the group "the Pal-ettes," where they took painting trips together, participating in art shows where Alandra won several awards.
She influenced many around her and was given the gift of life by kidney donations from two special friends, Peggy Mobley and Susie Gunter. Alandra's life was extended by 20 years because of the selfless gift from these two wonderful ladies. This is a testimony to how important it is to consider becoming an organ donor because Alandra was able to continue to impact her family and minister to others because of this gift of life.
Alandra is survived by her faithful husband of 63 years William H. Parks, Jr. as well as her children Felicia Ashby and Kathy (Brad) Jones, grandchildren Meghan Alandra Howell, Alex (Shelby) Ashby, Hallie Anne Jones, Sara Jones, and Kate Jones, and great-grandson, Clayton Ashby.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Charlie Etheredge, sister Diane Millikan, and nephew Bobby Millikan.
A private family graveside service will be held on Friday, August 30 at Forest Crest Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11:00 am at The Church of Brookhills located at 3145 Brook Highland Parkway, Birmingham. A reception will be held after the service. Please park in the North Parking lot by Highway 119 and use building Entrance 3 to access the worship center.
The family is especially grateful for the care given to her by her favorite nurse, Patrick Cumagun and the team at Davita Dialysis Center Greystone over the past 5 years. The family would also like to extend our sincerest gratitude and appreciation to Lance Brown, with the support of his wife Hope, for his attentiveness and loving care for Alandra over the past year.
Because she loved ministering to others, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the ministry, Freedom in Christ, 9051 Executive Park Drive, Suite 503, Knoxville, TN 37923.
