Evan was a member of the Birmingham Boys Choir and played for the Trussville United Soccer Team during his youth. Evan graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School, where he was a member of the Honors Choir and played varsity soccer. Evan attended Auburn University and remains an avid Auburn fan.
In July of 2012, Evan was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. During his courageous battle, he never once complained, asked “why me” or sought pity from others. His positive outlook was an inspiration for all. During his struggle, Evan remained strong and light-hearted as he entertained us with his quick wit, one-liners, and consistently positive attitude. He is, and will always remain, an inspiration to those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Evan is preceded in death by his grandfathers, John R. Lucas and Douglas L. Murdoch, and uncle Matthew Taylor Murdoch (with whom he shared a very special bond). He is survived by his parents John and Lindsay Lucas; brothers John D. (Katie) and Bryan L.; sister Meredith (fiancé Joshua Gautney); nephew Chance Lucas; grandmothers, Shirley Murdoch Patton (Raymond) and Mary Ann Lucas; numerous aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
Visitation is Friday November 8th from 4-7 pm with Rosary at 7pm. Funeral Mass is Saturday, November 9th at 11am. Both services will be held at Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church with Father Bill Lucas officiating, 8090 Gadsden Highway, Trussville, 35173. The family will receive friends following the service at Holy Infant.
In lieu of flowers, Evan can be honored with donations made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
