George A. Estes, age 100 passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019. George was born and lived all his life in Birmingham. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the European Theatre during WWII and was attached to the 35th Artillary Unit that shot down V1 and V2 rockets coming in over England and later fought in the Battle of the Bulge in France. He retired from the Clow Corporation as a foreman after 40 years of service. George was a lifelong member of Masonic Dolcito Lodge # 596, as well as a lifelong member of the Zamora Temple. George was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Homewood. George was preceded in death by his two sisters, Aileen E. Bell and Helen E. Hancock; and two brothers, Joe Estes and Walter Estes. He is survived by his cousin, Sondra Smaha and her husband, Don. He was truly loved and will be missed.
Services will be held Wednesday, November 13th at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel at 2:30 PM with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to your favorite charity.
