Gloria Mitchell Hayes

Gloria Ann Mitchell Hayes, at the age of 90, met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face with a “well done good and faithful servant” and was reunited with her earthly love, Gene, in the early hours of August 3rd, 2024.

Gloria was born June 5th, 1934 in Cragford, Alabama to the late Carter and Eral Mitchell. Gloria was a graduate of Jones Valley High School. Gloria was a classically trained pianist, and at the age of fourteen, she began playing in church. She served as pianist at South Park Baptist, Tinker Air Force Base, FBC Midfield, and FBC Pleasant Grove. Gloria’s hands spoke Jesus from the piano for 74 years.

Gloria met Gene Oliver Hayes when he came as choir director to their church and so began a long life of serving the Lord musically together. They were married 68 years when Gene preceded her to heaven.

Family was everything to Gloria. She deeply loved being a wife, mother, and Meme to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She adored being able to be “Meme” to many of their friends also.

Gloria is survived by her daughter, Terri Hayes (Stan), her two grandchildren, Drew Hayes (Samantha) and Amanda Hayes Bishop (Adam), and her two great-grandchildren Levi Bishop and Addilyn Hayes.

There will be a visitation on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 5:30 pm until 6:30 pm at First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove, 724 4th St, Pleasant Grove, AL 35127. A celebration of life will follow.
