Glynda Frances Hagler Franklin, age 83, went home to be with the Lord on August 16, 2024 at her home. She was born July 3, 1941 in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Minor High School and the Ida B. Moffet School of Nursing, where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse.
In 1961 she married the love of her life, Matthew Franklin. Glynda was a member of the Oncology Nurses Association. Glynda’s ability to comfort along with her kind nature made her an incredible oncology nurse. She had a work ethic that was unparalleled and strived to make sure every patient received love and kindness and comfort during their treatment.
She left nothing on the table when it came to her children and grandchildren. She had a keen sense of humor and a quick laugh. Having the voice of an angel she never failed to sing at high decibels on every car ride or road trip completely oblivious to the request from her children to stop singing. She would happily interject into the next verse “happy people sing!” with sighs resounding from the back seat. Quick to jitterbug in the kitchen with her husband just for the sheer entertainment of the children and grandchildren.
She greeted with a smile and a hug. If affection was in Olympic sport… she would have been a gold medalist. She was an excellent artist and avid reader and enjoyed traveling. Her talents were many and too numerous to list but her ability to love and show affection will never be forgotten. We are surely blessed to have had her in our lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Miller Hagler and Velma Hagler and her brother Charles Hagler. She is survived by her loving husband, Matthew Franklin; son, Adam Franklin (Laurie); daughter, Kimberly Franklin Hellums (Steve); grandchildren, Paden Franklin (Claire), Matt Franklin, Abigail Hellums Roy (Matthew), and Casey Joel Hellums (Kayla); great grandchildren. Matthew Grant Frey, Turner Wells Roy, Miller Frances Roy, Sawyer Joel Hellums, Lillian Kate Hellums, and Bennett Reed Hellums; sister, Karen Hagler Simonson (Gary) and brother, Don Hagler.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2021 from 10 am until 11 am at Johns Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home in the Celebration Chapel. A celebration of Glynda’s life will follow at 11 am. She will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the American Cancer Society in Glynda's memory. https://donate.cancer.org
