

† Gregory Wade Olvey, 56, a native of Birmingham, AL, passed away on May 9, 2020, in Atlanta, Georgia, surrounded by his family after battling a short term illness. Growing up, Greg played many sports, including baseball, golf, and his favorite sport, football. Greg graduated from Pelham High School, Class of 1982, where he played football for the Panthers and went on to attend the University of Montevallo and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Greg's enthusiasm for the Alabama Crimson Tide was fanatical! Game Day in the Fall will never be the same. "Roll Tide Brother." Greg was known for his generosity and his unyielding loyalty as a friend. Greg is preceded in death by his Mother, Mary Rebecca Gilmer Olvey; He is survived by his Father, Larry Wayne Olvey, of Indian Springs, AL; Sisters, Lynn Martin (Steven) Homewood, AL, Lauren Stastny (Steve) Vestavia Hills, AL, and Lane Olvey of Birmingham, AL, and his children, Courtney and Sydney Olvey, both of Pinehurst, NC. He is also survived by his longtime partner of 12 years, Pat Rasmussen, of Atlanta, GA. And nephews, Christian and Brenan Martin of Homewood, AL and John Michael and Ross Stastny of Vestavia Hills, AL. Greg was a devoted sports fan, and avid fisherman. Greg’s greatest joy was his daughters. Greg was a friend to all who knew him. The family will miss gathering with Greg and his unsurpassed hospitality, enjoying his garden produce and laughing along with his sense of humor. Pat and he looked forward to settling in the mountains following retirement, another passion Greg enjoyed. A graveside service and burial will be held on Friday, May 15, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Elmwood Cemetery and Mausoleum, 800 Dennison Avenue S.W., Birmingham, AL 35211. Greg's girls and family will be greatly comforted by flowers and plants, as Greg had a "Green Thumb" and his favorite flower was a Gardenia, or you may make a memorial contribution to a charity of your choice, in Greg's honor.
