Hal Wycoff was born in Birmingham, AL on November 27,1947 to Harold Wilson Wycoff Sr. and Katie Mae Haynes. Two things were obvious from a young age; Hal never met a stranger and he dearly loved his family. After his mother died at a very young age, Hal left school and took a job to help support his family. It was very important to him to help raise his younger brother and two younger sisters while their dad was working.
As a young man he married his sweetheart Cathy Trammell and began a lifelong career in the sales industry. They made a home in Roebuck and had two children, Rob and Beth. Once again Hal worked very hard to provide for his family.
As the family got older, they moved to Clay and Hal was led to begin a ministry for the homeless of Birmingham. In the beginning it was just Hal and another church member or sometimes Beth would join her Dad in providing whatever they could for the homeless under I59. Hal used his outgoing personality to recruit other helpers and before he knew it the entire church was involved, then another church and another. Until The Nest had dozens of churches from all over central Alabama feeding hot home cooked meals twice a week to Hal's homeless friends. Then came a medical clinic and even a dental clinic. Hal never judged. He just wanted them to feel like someone cared.
In his later years Hal suffered from several major illnesses, but he never stopped loving his family and he never lost that outgoing personality.
Hal Wycoff was a good man and will be missed by many.
Hal is proceeded in death by his parents, his brother John Russell (Rusty) Wycoff, his grandson James Robert (J.R.) Louden, and his granddaughter Abigail Lea Louden
He is survived by his wife Cathy Trammell Wycoff, his son Rob Wycoff, his daughter Beth Louden, his grandson Jackson Wycoff, his sister Susan Droke (Charlie), and his sister Betsy Simmons.
The family would like to thank Hal's morale boosters from Faith United Methodist Church ( Eric Roberson, Mark Strickland, Jim McKee, and Kerry Swickard). These gentleman could make him smile even when the days seemed dark.
