

Howard Ransom Kitchens , 81, died Feb. 1, 2016. He was born Feb. 18, 1934, in Logan, Alabama to Rev. Thomas Kitchens and Madge Ryan Kitchens. . He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-57. He was a graduate of Florence State Teachers College and The University of Alabama. Mr. Kitchens was a retired basketball coach, school teacher and principal. As a member of Westwood Baptist Church in Forestdale, he taught Sunday school and was active in the life of the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his twin brother, William Francis Kitchens. Mr. Kitchens is survived by his wife, Mary Sloan Kitchens; two daughters: Beth (Tim) Kaiser of Vestavia; and Laura (Glen) Greco of Dallas, Georgia; and by six grandchildren: Sarah Beth Kaiser, Emily Ann Kaiser, Rachel Lauren Kaiser, Catherine Sloan Greco, Julia Beth Greco and John Matthew Ransom Greco. He is also survived by one brother, John (Sue) Kitchens of Boaz; and one sister, Sarah (Mike) Lindsay of Tanner; nieces, nephews, and many friends. Pallbearers will be Brad Kitchens, Lance Kitchens, Wesley Kitchens, David Reed, Carey Dutton and Michael Pollick. Family will receive friends from 1:00 p. m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life ceremony following at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Steve Potts officiating.
