Irene was born in Kuehndorf, Germany in the state of Thuringia. She was one of six children to Erich and Lina Schmidt (nee Schubert).
Her siblings were Gerda, Melitta, Liselotte, Karl-Heinz and Rudi. Rudi is the last surviving sibling and resides in Munchehof, Germany.
Irene was widowed to Robert Hall and is survived by her sons Peter, Michael and Daniel Hall; grandchildren, Ryan, Derek, Tyler, Allison, and Sam Hall; and great-grandchildren, Ethan, David, and Elijah Hall.
Irene lived through WWII, escaped post-war East Germany and was married in Frankfurt to Robert Hall who was stationed there while serving in the United States Air Force. They came to Atlanta, Georgia in 1955 and the family later moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 1959. Irene worked as EKG Supervisor at University Hospital for 32 years and lived in Homewood the rest of her life. Her greatest loves were being with family and friends and her church for over 61 years, The Lutheran Church of Vestavia Hills.
There will be a Memorial Service on Thursday, May 27 at 11 am in the LCVH Sanctuary, 201 Montgomery Hwy, Vestavia Hills AL 35216, with reception and time of visitation in the church fellowship hall (pending Covid restrictions being lifted by that date). This will be followed by a 2 pm Graveside Service at Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale.
