Born on December 5, 1939, to Damon and Nova Cook Poe, James spent much of his life in Trussville, AL. He was a man who understood the value of a job well done. For over 20 years, he served as an automotive mechanic at Sears.
When he wasn’t working, James was often found in his garden, tending to his plants with the same care he gave his vehicles. His faith was his foundation; a devoted Christian, James was a pillar of the Trussville Southside Baptist Church for 60 years. As a Sunday school teacher, he shared his wisdom and kindness with generations of his community.
James is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Carol Lowery Poe, his parents, Damon and Nova Poe, and his sister-in-law, Joyce Poe. His legacy of hard work and devotion lives on. He is survived by his son, Edward Wolfgang Poe; his brother, Eugene Nelson Poe; his nephew, Michael Eugene Poe (Karen); and his cousin, Alice Bingear.
A graveside service for James will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25th at Ridout’s Forest Crest Cemetery, 5730 US-78, Birmingham, AL 35210. Pastor Al Choquette of Trussville Southside Baptist Church will preside over the service.
