

Janie Louise Brown Buck of Vestavia Hills Alabama passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. Janie was born in Andalusia, Alabama. She was one of seven children of Lou and Pat Brown. She graduated from Florida State University in 1953 and taught school in Huntsville, Alabama. Upon being selected as Maid of Cotton for Covington County, she came to Birmingham for the statewide Maid of Cotton Contest. At that time, she met her husband, Dr. W. P. Buck. They have two children, Dr. W.P. Buck Jr. (Kelly), and Mary Lou Buck Davis (Dusty) and six grand children one in heaven and 5 great grand children. Janie was soprano soloist at the 1st Presbyterian Church and sung in the Birmingham Civic Opera. She was a member of the Bush Hills Music Club. However, she was known for her witness for Christ. She was the catalyst for Elizabeth Newbold to teach a Bible study in her home for twelve years. During this time hundreds trusted Christ as their Savior and Lord. She has spoken in every southern state and was invited to speak and share Christ to the New England Patriots football team wives, as well as the Boston Celtic and Red Socks wives. She was invited back to Boston by the Catholic Bishop to be the main speaker for the Boston Catholic League. Other countries benefited from her teaching such as Australia, Kenya and South Africa. She Authored books entitled, My Country Roads, Elizabeth, A Blessing to All Nations, Keeping Cool in Life's Fires, Wales Goebel's bio No More Storms a 'Coming, and co-authored with her daughter, Dr. Frank Barker's bio Flight Path. She was a green thumb gardener who grew orchids and numerous flowers in her green house. Her yard always exhibited different plants in bloom year round. She was a member of the Dogwood Garden Club. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman and her children in the faith as well as her own children and grandchildren all rise up and call her blessed. There will be a family burial at Elmwood Cemetery at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. There will be a memorial service to honor her life at Briarwood Church at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 with a reception following afterward.
