Jenine Barr, a cherished educator, devoted wife, and loving matriarch, entered eternal rest with her Lord on September 17, 2025, at age 95. Her gentle spirit and unwavering faith touched many hearts, leaving a profound legacy of love and kindness.
Born in Akron, Alabama, Jenine graduated from the University of Alabama with a BA in education and dedicated over 30 years to teaching first grade, inspiring young minds at schools in Talladega, Jackson Elementary and Green Acres Elementary in Birmingham, Fairfield Highlands in Fairfield, and Dunham Christian School in Bessemer. A lifelong Methodist, her deep faith guided her compassionate life across homes in Akron, Talladega, Birmingham, and Helena.
She shared 52 joyful years with her beloved husband, William Bruce Barr, until his passing in 2008. Jenine is survived by sons William Bruce Barr, Jr. (Jan), Mark Ramey Barr (Cindy), and Robert Michael Barr (Kara); grandchildren Joy Christian Barr, Zachary Mark Barr (Cindy), William Bruce Barr III (Jackie), and Hank Harvey Barr; great-grandchildren Carter, Haven, Judah, and Amelia Barr; sisters Dorothy Reed and Joyce Jernigan; and nieces/nephews Lynn Taunton, Keith Reed, John Reed, and Paul Reed.
Jenine’s warmth, wisdom, and grace will forever inspire those she loved. Though deeply missed, her memory lives on in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Church at Cahaba Bend (PO Box 477, 3721 Highway 52, Helena, AL 35080).
A memorial service will be held at The Church at Cahaba Bend in Helena Wednesday, September 24, with visitation at 10:15, followed by a memorial service at 11:00. A graveside service will be held in Myrtlewood, Alabama at 2:30 pm.
